Education

I graduated with honors from Gate City High School in 2004.  I went on to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies: Middle Grades Education at Carson-Newman College.  While at Carson-Newman College, I completed many practicum hours at many different schools across Jefferson and Hamblen County.  I completed my student teaching at Surgoinsville Elementary with Mrs. Kim Barton, and at Surgoinsville Middle with Mrs. Faye Dolen.  I graduated in December of 2008 and immediately entered the teaching profession as an interim teacher with Scott County Schools in Virginia.

Experience

My career in Middle Grades education has taken me to several different schools.  I started teaching immediately after my college graduation in December of 2008 in my hometown of Gate City, VA.  My first teaching position was in Special Education at Gate City High School during the Spring semester of 2009.  However, in March, I was moved to an interim Algebra I position where I achieved a 100% pass rate on the Algebra I Standards of Learning test.

The following year, I was given a full time teaching position for the 2009-2010 school year as the Title I teacher at Rye Cove Intermediate in Scott County Va.  I received many positive reviews and observations in the classroom, and volunteered my time to help the baseball team at Gate City High School.  Next, I moved to Sullivan County Tn to teach 7th and 8th Grade Science at Holston Valley Middle School.  I also coached the football and baseball teams at Holston Valley Middle School.

I then took a brief absence from teaching to pursue other opportunities, but soon decided to go back to my passion for education.  I came to Hawkins County Schools in 2014 as the 6th grade Mathematics teacher at Rogersville Middle School.  I taught Mathematics, and coached football and baseball there during the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school years.  I received a level 4 out of 5 teacher rating for the success my students had on their state standardized test.  I was then given the opportunity to teach at the school I had done my student-teaching in college, and here I am.  I am entering my 6th year in Middle Grades education as the 8th Grade Algebra I and Mathematics teacher at Surgoinsville Middle.  I will also be helping out as an assistant coach for our football team.  I am extremely happy to be coming back to the place where I found my passion for teaching young people.  I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be apart of the great teaching staff at Surgoinsville Middle School and this great community.  GO EAGLES!!!
