My name is Stephen Wells, and I am the PE teacher for Surgoinsville Middle School. I am happy to be an Eagle and begin my first year as a teacher! I was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina. I played varsity basketball and soccer for South Florence High School. After high school, I went all the way up to Holland, Michigan, where I spent my next 4 years. I attended Hope College and obtained a degree in Physical Education and Health. While in Michigan, I interned with Hope College’s football team in the weight room, as well as student taught. I student taught in PE, Health, and Strength classes at a local high school. Then, I moved to Johnson City and began graduate school for Sport Science with East Tennessee State University (ETSU). At ETSU, I was a sport scientist/strength and conditioning coach for the softball team, who won the conference tournament for the first time in program history! I worked with the David Crockett High School volleyball team during this time as well. In the summer of 2016, I had an amazing opportunity to intern with Ohio State University’s Olympic Sports program, where I worked with most of the sports other than football. Now I am really settling into East Tennessee, as I am getting married in September! I can’t wait to teach at Surgoinsville Middle School and hope to effectively promote lifelong physical activity in every student!
