Vocabulary Words 

We have been including vocabulary words that will benefit students throughout the school year.  Below is a list of the vocabulary words that have been introduced so far.

Analyze - Break/pull apart to find most important/essential information

Equivalent - same or equal

Scientific Method - Includes observation, question, hypothesis, experiment, analyze data, conclusion that is communicated

Summarize - restate the text being read using fewer words to tell the most important ideas

Relevant - connected to the matter at hand, pertinent

Cite evidence - quote or mention as an example or proof of what you are saying

Research - careful study of a given subject to discover facts or principles

Generalization - asserting something to be true of all members of a class (may look at several examples to determine)

Narrative Writing - telling a story from the perspective of someone in the story (two main points of view - 1st  person or 3rd person )

Quotient - answer to a division problem

Fluency - ability to read text accurately, quickly, and with expression (Fluency is bridge between word recognition and comprehension.)

Inference - a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning (Inference can proceed through induction or deduction.)

Arid – Extremely dry or deathly boring

Benevolent – Friendly and helpful

Conformist – A person who complies with accepted rules and concepts

Empathy – Identification with the feelings with others

Exasperation – Irritation, frustration

Abstinence – the act of refraining from pleasurable activity.  Examples: eating and drinking

Anonymous – Nameless

Emulate – To imitate, follow an example

Exemplary – Outstanding, an example to others

Jubilation – Joy, celebration, exultation
