Welcome to Surgoinsville Middle

Hawkins County Schools' graduates are prepared for college and career to enable them to become productive citizens and successful members of the workforce.  Hawkins County Schools recognizes that when families are engaged in their children's education, the students achieve higher grades, have better attendance and behavior, complete more homework and demonstrate a more positive attitude toward school. We believe that building meaningful and authentic partnerships with our families and communities is the best way to ensure our students' success in school, careers and life.

Message from Dr. Davenport

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

For the past 2 years, I have been working as the vice principal of Surgoinsville Middle School. As we start this new year (and my third year at the school), I would like to introduce myself as the new principal of SMS. I love our students very much and look forward to seeing them soon! Although we did not end last school year like a normal school year, I want to say thank you to our SMS parents and guardians, students, and teachers for all that you have done during the last months of school as well as this summer. I truly appreciate the efforts that everyone has extended to ensure their student is ready for the new school year.

Although SMS will be following the district re-entry plans, starting next week, we will be releasing our specific school-level plans via paper as well as video. This video will explain what to expect when school is open and students are in the building at SMS. This video and plan should answer some if not all of the many questions you may have been thinking about during this time. We will work to be transparent and communicate our vision, goals, and plans to everyone as we transition into this new way of implementing school. Also, the district and school-level plans will be available via our website and facebook.

Moving forward, please monitor our website and facebook page as we will be communicating frequently with everyone regarding our school-level reopening as well as any correspondence from the district office. In addition, we will be having a drive-thru Back to School Bash on August 7th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Again, prior to this date, we will be communicating our school-level plans, district plans, and other relevant information to starting school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at or call the school at (423) 345-2252. I would be happy to discuss any concerns you may have. Go Eagles!
