Bio

Mr. Fritts has taught General Music classes for seven years, the last three of which at SMS. He and his wife Robin have four children. Mr. Fritts grew up playing mandolin and guitar in the Fritts Family Band on several recorded albums and live appearance at festivals, concerts, radio, and TV. As a student at SMS, Mr. Fritts played trombone in the SMS band. His musical experiences branched out into rock, pop, jazz, and country music throughout his high school and college years. After graduating from Tusculum College with a degree in K-8 Education, Mr. Fritts started teaching general education in Hawkins County school and performed less with his family band. He often incorporated music in his general education lessons, so it was unsurprising after seven years of teaching general education content, Mr. Fritts passed the tests required to teach music K-12. Mr. Fritts began teaching general music at Carter's Valley Elementary in 2013. In 2014, he was asked to teach general music at both Carter's Valley and Keplar Elementary Schools. Mr. Fritts then became the general music teacher at Surgoinsville Middle in 2017 and has enjoyed his time teaching music and directing shows there ever since. With his wife Robin and other SMS faculty, Mr. Fritts has helped direct junior musical productions at SMS and Volunteer High School including The Little Mermaid Jr., Peter Pan Jr., Getting to Know...Footloose, Frozen Jr., and Beauty and the Beast Jr.
