Surgoinsville Middle School Library/Computer Science Lessons for this 9 Weeks:

This year in the SMS Library...

5th and 6th Graders...

  • Will focus on finding and selecting books for personal use.   They will develop an appreciation of literature in multiple genres.

  • Will learn how to use the library, as well as the online catalog.  

  • Will learn digital citizenship skills. 

  • Will develop their writing and research skills.

  • Will become proficient users of Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets.

  • Will explore computer programming concepts.

  • And they will learn about the impacts of computing on their society.

7th and 8th Graders...

  • Will have daily lessons based on the Tennessee State Computer Science Standards for Middle School Students.

  • Will learn foundational concepts of computing.

  • Will become algorithmic thinkers.

  • Will analyze data.

  • Will learn about networking and the internet.

  • Will explore computer programming concepts.

  • And they will learn about the impacts of computing on their society.

Google Classroom

 Students will join the Library/Computer Science Google classroom.  This is where class announcements will be made.  Also, class assignments will be found in the Google Classroom.

Bio

Hello! I am the librarian at Surgoinsville Middle School! Born and raised in Hawkins County, I graduated from Cherokee High School. I went on to receive my Bachelors in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and my Master's in Library Media and Technology from East Tennessee State University. I have taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grade math and 5th grade science. I love being the librarian at Surgoinsville Middle School and hope you will visit our library soon!
